NAS Resources

Unlike SAN, which offers device sharing, NAS offers file sharing, making it ideal for adding general purpose, shareable, storage space for users and groups. With NAS, users can access data and storage via a network interface using SMB/CIFS and NFS shares provided by ASC.

In ASC, NAS is simply another network storage service on your storage network. NAS uses the same storage devices that SAN uses, eliminating the need for separate devices.  NAS Resources are Logical Resources that are (or can be) assigned to NAS Clients.

This unique architecture effectively utilizes disk storage and unifies SAN and NAS under a unified management umbrella.

The NAS Resources tab displays a list of current NAS Resources, including type, size, and number of sectors used.

In order for a Client to be able to access NAS resources, you must:

Set NAS system properties (right-click on Window Clients object and select Properties).

Add NFS Clients (right-click on NFS Clients and select Add).

Create a NAS Resource (right-click on the NAS Resources object and select New).

Add/share one or more folders and assign Clients (right-click on a NAS Resource and select New Share).

Map/mount the share from each Client's computer.
