Windows Clients

Windows Clients use the Common Internet File System (CIFS) protocol to work together and share documents.

When you highlight the Windows Clients object, the General tab displays information about the server, workgroup, and authentication mode.  You will only see an authentication server if the authentication mode is Server or Domain.  The Share mode does not use an authentication server.  It uses passwords for authentication.  These passwords are set when you create a share.

The Users tab displays a list of users obtained from the authentication server.  If the authentication mode is Share, you will not see any users listed because there is no authentication server and any Windows Client can access a share (provided he/she knows the password).

The Groups tab displays a list of groups obtained from the authentication server.  If the authentication mode is Share, you will not see any groups listed.  If the authentication mode is Server, you will only see groups if the authentication server is a Primary Domain Controller (PDC)/Domain Controller.

The Connection(s) tab displays a list of Clients connected to this share.

The Share(s) tab displays information about the share(s) being used by Windows Clients.

The Locked File(s) tab displays a list of files currently being used by Windows Clients.

In order for a Windows Client to be able to access NAS resources, you must:

Create at least one NAS Resource.

Add/share one or more folders and assign the Windows Client to the share.

Map the share from the Client's computer.
